Alyne Perfeito's artist statement: "I paint to give weight to silence"

Alyne Perfeito's artist statement opens with one line: "I paint to give weight to silence." The Brazilian visual artist and trained architect, based in Brasília, writes that she works between architecture and abstraction because both ask matter to carry presence, sometimes in violence, sometimes in stillness. Below, each line is read against a work.

The statement, in full, and how its four sentences are built

Silent Interval (Matter & Silence, 2026) is mixed media with acrylic on canvas, 120 x 160 cm. A single dark line descends through a field of warm bone-white and gathers into a weighted pool; a block of blue anchors the lower edge. The ground is worked and scored, and the line is not corrected: it records one continuous movement. It is one way into the first sentence of the statement the studio publishes on its page about the artist:

“I paint to give weight to silence. I work between architecture and abstraction because both ask the same thing of matter: that it carry presence. Each canvas is a field where I let pigment, gold, and gesture meet — sometimes in violence, sometimes in stillness. What I look for is the moment matter starts to speak.”

The four sentences each make one claim. The first gives the aim: silence, treated as something with weight. The second gives the position: between architecture and abstraction, because both ask matter to carry presence. The third names the materials of that position, pigment, gold and gesture, and the two registers in which they meet. The fourth names what she looks for: the moment matter starts to speak. Nothing in the statement describes a process step by step; the process is in the works and in their medium lines, which is where the rest of this page goes.

The studio's biography adds the architectural half. It says that, trained as an architect, she brings to painting a discipline of scale, proportion and structural intention, and that the canvases are conceived as inhabited surfaces on which matter, light and gesture negotiate the questions a building does: weight and air, presence and silence, what is built and what is simply allowed. The studio describes the practice as mostly large-format work of 45 to 200 cm, made for architectural interiors. For who she is and how the series are organised, the profile page covers it; this page stays with the statement.

"Weight" and "silence": Matter & Silence in two works

The studio's biography describes Matter & Silence as the rhythm of sculpted stillness. Echo of Silence (2025, AP-MAS-2025-002) is listed as sculpted texture on canvas, 50 x 70 cm (19.7 x 27.6 in), R$ 2,400. Its description speaks of concentric reliefs and organic folds, in one monochrome: here silence has to be built from surface alone, so weight is literal.

Silent Interval (2026, AP-MAS-2026-003), 120 x 160 cm (47.2 x 63 in), R$ 7,900, takes the other route named in its own description. Where other works in the series hold their silence through sculpted monochrome, it finds silence in restraint: a single act suspended in a large pale field. The same two words of the statement, weight and silence, are met by opposite means, relief in one and emptiness in the other.

For a curator, this is the useful point: the statement is not decorative text added to the works. Its terms can be checked against medium, scale and surface, work by work.

"Sometimes in violence": Genesis of Flame

Genesis of Flame (Heart of Chaos, 2025, AP-HOC-2025-001) is mixed media on canvas (acrylic, metallic pigment, high-gloss and matte finish), 120 x 200 cm (47 x 79 in), R$ 8,800. A red nucleus ignites from a deep black void and releases fragments of silver, copper and rose; the interplay of gloss and matte is part of the surface, and the detail photograph at the top of this page shows the red passage up close, with the weave of the canvas still visible through the paint.

The studio's biography describes Heart of Chaos as the ignition of energy in darkness, which sits close to the statement's word violence; that pairing is a reading drawn from the works, not something the studio states. Read together, the two works show how far apart the poles sit: Genesis of Flame is 120 x 200 cm of eruption, Echo of Silence is 50 x 70 cm of relief.

A practical note for anyone placing it: Genesis of Flame has no fixed top or bottom. It can be hung either way up, at the buyer's choice.

Where the statement says "gold": imitation gold leaf (metallic leaf)

The third sentence names gold among the materials. The studio's material record is explicit about what that word means in the works: where a technique lists gold leaf, it is imitation gold leaf (metallic leaf), not real gold, and the leaf is sealed with a spray sealant. The works with metallic leaf are Golden Passage, Celestial Plan, Origin of Light, Quartz Seam and Vegetal Dawn. In the statement, gold stands beside pigment and gesture among the things that meet on the canvas; the medium line is where the material is stated.

Quartz Seam (Terra & Ether, 2026, AP-TAE-2026-007) is mixed media with acrylic and imitation gold leaf (metallic leaf) on canvas, 98 x 152 cm (38.6 x 59.8 in), R$ 6,700. Its description reads the seams of leaf as the place where matter fractured and was held together again, and says the pigment is laid thick enough to carry its own relief. The detail photograph shows that relief: a raised ribbon of metallic leaf across a plum-rose ground that fades to pale blue-grey, with fine flecks around it.

For whoever is acquiring, or asking for images

For curators. The studio's page for galleries and curators says that, for exhibition proposals, high-resolution images and the technical record of any work are sent on request; contact is by WhatsApp or email. Each work's own page carries the authoritative medium, dimensions, year, Archive ID, availability and price.

For anyone acquiring a work. Every acquisition is direct from the artist and includes the original, unique painting; a signed Certificate of Authenticity with the full technical record and the Archive ID, carrying a QR code that links to the work's official page; a fiscal invoice or official receipt; an Artwork Acquisition Agreement covering transfer of ownership, copyright and image use; an artist dossier; conservation and care guidance; and professional packaging. Prices are in Brazilian reais.

Seeing and shipping. Part of the collection is on view at INTI, in Lago Sul, Brasília, by appointment arranged over WhatsApp; additional detail photographs and video of a specific work are available on request. The studio ships within Brazil and internationally; freight is quoted per destination and paid by the buyer, as are any import duties or taxes in the destination country, and transit insurance is available. See shipping. Scale is easiest to judge with paper: cut a sheet to the listed width and height and tape it to the wall.

From the studio

From the studio: one word, three materials

I trained as an architect, and I read my own canvases the way I read a wall: for what carries weight and what is left open. In Echo of Silence (50 x 70 cm) there is only sculpted texture, so the silence has to be built from surface. In Silent Interval (120 x 160 cm) I keep most of the ground pale and let one dark line carry it. In Genesis of Flame (120 x 200 cm) the black is a void and the red ignites from it.

In my statement, gold stands beside pigment and gesture. The material in Quartz Seam, Golden Passage and the others that carry it is imitation gold leaf (metallic leaf), sealed with a spray sealant, and I want a curator to read both: the sentence and the medium line.

Frequently asked

What is Alyne Perfeito's artist statement?

It is four sentences, published on the studio's page about the artist. It begins "I paint to give weight to silence", says she works between architecture and abstraction because both ask matter to carry presence, describes each canvas as a field where pigment, gold and gesture meet, sometimes in violence and sometimes in stillness, and ends with the moment matter starts to speak. Where it says gold, the studio specifies imitation gold leaf (metallic leaf).

How does her training as an architect show in the paintings?

The studio says that, trained as an architect, she brings a discipline of scale, proportion and structural intention to painting, and conceives canvases as inhabited surfaces. The works range from 50 x 70 cm to 120 x 200 cm among those discussed here, and the studio lists dimensions as width by height, the order in which a wall is read.

Which series express violence and which stillness?

The studio describes Heart of Chaos as the ignition of energy in darkness, as in Genesis of Flame, and Matter & Silence as the rhythm of sculpted stillness, as in Echo of Silence and Silent Interval. The statement itself does not assign series to the two registers; this reading is drawn from the works and their descriptions.

What materials does she use?

The studio lists mixed media on canvas with acrylic, metallic pigment, mineral pigments, texture paste and sculpted texture, plus imitation gold leaf (metallic leaf) in some works. The leaf is not real gold and is sealed with a spray sealant. Each work's medium line states exactly which of these it uses, for instance Quartz Seam and Echo of Silence.

Where can a curator request images and technical sheets?

The studio's page for galleries and curators says high-resolution images and the technical record of any work are sent on request, through WhatsApp or contato@perfeitostudio.com. The page for each work also publishes medium, dimensions, year, Archive ID, availability and price in Brazilian reais.

Reading the statement against a work in person?

Ask the studio for high-resolution images, the technical record of a work, or a viewing in Brasília by appointment.
