Its pigment is laid thick enough to carry its own relief and then bounded rather than blended, so each field keeps its edge, and the metallic seams mark where one field meets another. The studio states that the metallic leaf is sealed with a spray sealant. That is the studio in one object: a unique painting, built in layers, with its technique written out in full.

From the studio: what I would like a stranger to be able to check
I trained as an architect, and I think about the studio the way I think about a drawing set: everything a stranger needs should be on the sheet. That is why each work is listed with its technique, its size in two units and its Archive ID, and why the certificate points back to the work's page.
In Quartz Seam I lay the pigment thick enough to carry relief and bound each field rather than blend it, and the seams record where the matter gave way. In Silent Interval a single dark line falls through a bone-white field over a worked and scored ground. In Genesis of Flame a red nucleus ignites from a black void. In Petal Current horizontal bands of moss green, lilac and pale yellow run like a river seen from above. The four are different in scale and in temperament, and they sit in one studio.
