Frieze Abu Dhabi 2026: dates, galleries and what changed from Abu Dhabi Art

Frieze Abu Dhabi runs 19–22 November 2026 at Manarat Al Saadiyat, in Abu Dhabi's Saadiyat Cultural District. It replaces Abu Dhabi Art, whose 17th edition in 2025 was the last under that name, and is organised by Frieze with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi. Thursday 19 is invitation-only; the public enters from Friday 20.

Dates, venue and how the days are split

In Quartz Seam, pigment is laid thick enough to carry its own relief, and the fields of colour are bounded by seams of imitation gold leaf (metallic leaf) rather than blended. Seen close, the surface is a record of weight and edge; seen across a room, it is a single slow colour. A painting reads differently at the distance of a fair aisle than on a wall at home, which is a reason to be exact about what a fair is and when it opens.

Frieze Abu Dhabi's own site gives 19–22 November 2026 at Manarat Al Saadiyat, on Al Saadiyat Island. Thursday 19 November is an invitation-only preview, from 2 pm to 9 pm. The fair opens to the public from 2 pm on Friday 20 November and runs to Sunday 22 November, with 2 pm to 9 pm listed for each day. Two sources therefore describe the same event with different first dates: The National gives 19–22 November, while Abu Dhabi Art's own page gives 20–22 November, which matches the days open to the public.

What changed from Abu Dhabi Art

Abu Dhabi Art's own page says the fair was launched in 2009 at Emirates Palace and that its 17th edition, in 2025, was the last under the Abu Dhabi Art name. The Abu Dhabi government media office announced the change on 10 October 2025: the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Frieze would evolve Abu Dhabi Art into Frieze Abu Dhabi, starting with the 2026 edition.

The organiser is now Frieze, in partnership with DCT Abu Dhabi, and the home is Manarat Al Saadiyat. The National reports that this is Frieze's first fair in the West Asia, North Africa and South Asia region; its other fairs are in London, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Seoul. So the answer to "is it the same fair as Abu Dhabi Art?" is yes in lineage and no in name, organiser and format: the fair that ran for 17 editions is the one that was renamed and re-run by Frieze.

Who is taking part, and what else is opening on Saadiyat

The numbers differ by source and date. The National, writing on 27 August 2026, reported 84 galleries from 63 cities in 36 countries, with more than 60 in the main section, which covers art from the mid-20th century to the present. The fair's own site now says 85+ galleries from 35+ countries and regions. The exhibitor list on the fair's site is the authority.

The National also lists the parts of the programme: a Focus section of younger galleries, Global Futures with solo presentations curated by Tarini Malik, and Frieze Masters Abu Dhabi, curated by Marika Sardar, covering antiquity to the early 20th century. The fair's director is Dyala Nusseibeh. Among the galleries named are Carbon 12, Lawrie Shabibi and The Third Line from the UAE, and Gagosian, Pace, Victoria Miro and Perrotin from further afield.

About three weeks after the fair, the district gains a museum: Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, announced by DCT Abu Dhabi on 28 July 2026, opens on 11 December 2026 in the Saadiyat Cultural District, beside Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi.

Tickets: what the fair publishes

On the day this page was written (24 October 2026), the fair's ticket page said that Early Bird tickets were sold out and full-price tickets were still available. Access is by multi-day pass, from 2 pm on Friday 20 November to Sunday 22 November, or by single-entry general admission: Friday 20 is 2 pm to 9 pm, and Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 each offer a 2–5 pm or a 5–9 pm slot. A discounted single entry is available for visitors aged 12 to 25. Last admission each day is at 8.30 pm, and general admission has no re-entry. The ticket page lists no prices, so this page does not quote any. Check the fair's own ticket page for the current position, since availability changes.

For whoever is going to acquire: a fair, a gallery, a studio

This page is an explainer for collectors. Perfeito Studio is not part of the fair's programme and has no affiliation with Frieze or its organisers. The studio sells in a different way: direct from the artist, Alyne Perfeito, a Brazilian visual artist and trained architect based in Brasília, whose current body of work was painted between 2025 and 2026.

On how collectors choose among routes, the Art Basel and UBS Survey of Global Collecting 2025 reports that 58% of the high-net-worth collectors it sampled made fair-linked purchases (up from 39% in 2023) and that direct-from-artist sales more than doubled in participation compared with the previous survey. The sample was 3,100 collectors in ten markets, and the UAE was not one of them, so the figures describe collecting elsewhere. They point to buying direct from an artist as a growing channel alongside fairs, not a replacement for them.

Scale and light. A visitor to a fair sees a work in the light of a booth. For a work such as Quartz Seam, 98 x 152 cm, in the atelier's experience imitation gold leaf catches light differently from room to room, so the studio sends detail photographs and video of the surface on request. The visualisation below places it on the long wall of a majlis-style reception room to show scale; it is illustrative only.

Documents and shipping. Every acquisition from the studio includes the original painting, a signed Certificate of Authenticity with the technical record and Archive ID, a fiscal invoice or official receipt, an Artwork Acquisition Agreement, an artist dossier, care guidance and professional packaging. The studio ships anywhere, within Brazil and internationally; shipping is quoted per destination and paid by the buyer, as are import duties or taxes in the destination country. The studio does not publish a fixed international delivery time. For the UAE side, see the guide to importing an original painting from Brazil into the UAE, and for how to approach a fair, buying art at an art fair: what to expect.

From the studio

From the atelier: reading a painting after a fair

I trained as an architect, so I tend to ask what a wall needs before I ask what a work is. A fair compresses dozens of answers into a few days; a house asks one question for years. Quartz Seam, at 98 x 152 cm, is a vertical built in thick pigment and metallic leaf, and its seams change with the light of the room more than a matte surface does, which is why I would rather send close photographs than describe it.

For a collector who comes back from Abu Dhabi with an eye for scale and for texture, the two other works I would look at are Elemental Veins, with its metallic fragments, and the horizontal Amber Strata, which reads as a long field of ochre and umber rather than a single event.

Frequently asked
